Be Smarter at the Grocery Store.

You can save a lot of money by clipping coupons, and with food prices up 5% this year, we need all the help we can get to cut costs. To save even more, think like a grocery-store manager the next time you go shopping: Stroll the periphery first, where necessities like fresh meats and vegetables are shelved. Then, when you've got the basics, venture into the middle aisles where the tempting - and often expensive - packaged foods are sold. Try to shop after a nice meal, so you aren't hungry. And if you can, leave the kids with a neighbor or a spouse-it's like getting a $20 coupon. If your worried about pesticides but can't afford to go completely organic, save money by choosing nonorganic bananas, domestic cantaloupes(actually they're muck melons, cantaloupes are rare to find), and other fruits and vegetables with thick rinds or peels that naturally resist pesticides.
