Check Your Tires
One of the most important things people over look when maintaining their car are the tires. It doesn't take much effort to see if your tires need more air. If tires are under-inflated it can cost you at the gas pump because your car is having to work twice as hard on the road. This means your gas mileage is suffering. If you have the right amount of air in your tires, this will help save you money at the gas pump. It also is not safe to be driving with under-inflated tires. Another important aspect to under inflated tires is the risk. That's right, I said risk, risk of personal injury or even death. Under inflated tires pose a serious safety hazard, especially on the highway because the tire becomes unstable and could pop its bead or have steel belt deformations due to the uneven nature of the tire. The vehicle is unevenly supported thereby adding additional strain to an already strained tire which have many times resulted in blow-outs, usually at higher speeds, causing loss of vehicle control! You can figure out what that would mean on the highway doing say, 70 mph? How long would it take under ideal circumstances to stop for an emergency at this speed? Now think if you had only three tires in service! Most gas stations have air machines with pressure gauges for use for 25 to 50 cents. I think it's a fair amount, don't you?
