Save on Winter Heating Bills
Heating and cooling your home accounts for a whopping 49% of your annual energy bill, and it will be even pricier this year. Heating oil is expected to jump 25%, and natural gas prices will likely rise by 17%. To cut costs, install a $60 programmable thermostat-it'll save you $180 per year by regulating the temperature in your home. Changing a clogged furnace filter and insulating your hot water pipes will further reduce your bill. Also, be aware that "the average home has leaks equivalent to leaving a window open year-round." according to the EPA. Solve the problem by using caulk, spray foam, and weather stripping around doors, windows, and the points where telephone wires enter the house. If you are having a difficult time with your winter heating please check with your local city hall/city manager for programs that may be available to you. Don't tough it out! Don't be embarrassed! Just do whatever it takes to be Warm this winter!!
