How to Bond a WEP200 Bluetooth Headset to a Cellphone.

I asked Motorola. I asked Samsung. I asked a Motorola forum. I got nothing. My Motorola Razr V3(the original Razr) broke last week after many happy years of use. I did something previously that I've never done before - purchased the optional insurance. Yeah! I contacted the insurance company and filed a claim for a broken Razr V3. Of course the V3 has been discontinued for quite some time now and they said they'd ship me a compatible Razr replacement. I got the replacement within 24 hours of the claim being filed and it was a model V3t. I didn't know there was a V3t. Okay, I made my mods that I wanted to do and went to link up my Samsung WEP200 ear piece and nothing happened. I contacted the above providers and got the above responses when asked to mate the devices. Web searches turned up nothing much for the V3t and the WEP200, except what the quick guides and manuals already said. I did an online chat with a T-Mobile tech rep and was up and running in less than 5 minutes time. The answer?

Hold down the main button on the WEP200 until the blue light stays on constantly. If the cell is off, turn it on and enter the bluetooth section and discover(if you even need to go that far)the device. All done! I couldn't find this in the docs but it must be there somewhere because I had to have done it with the V3 when I got the WEP200 in the first place. BTW, I love the Razr V3t. It's a cool phone.

Also, when you get the microSD card for storing photos(required for photo storage)you have a max limitation of 2 Gig's. You do not need the card to store video, however! That's messed up. You can store 512 MB of video but need a card to store a tiny picture. Seems to me it should be the other way around. Pics below!

What a Day It Was.

Last week I got a subpoena to appear in court for a murder trial. The murder took place in 2006 and is just coming to trial. The detective in charge told me last year that I might get a subpoena but they were trying to see if my testimony was needed. This brings me back to the subpoena. I won't say who's trial it was or the circumstances of the case, I'm just writing about the day in general. I received many helpful sets of EASY directions to the courthouse that took many different directions. I made the mistake of not using my GPS and relied on my trip mapper s/w which ended up fairly close to the mark. What it didn't do is tell me the signs on the buildings were poor at best and of course I got lost, but since I left extra early I was fine when I got there. I did my testifying which consisted of identifying some evidence, not an actual scene witness thank goodness. I took the correct turn to leave and got lost again due to poor road signs again. I figured that my gas mileage was going to the dogs about now with all the short driving I was doing, getting lost in all! Half way home I stopped at a gas station I frequented and filled up then requested a receipt. I figure that when I got home I'd figure exactly how bad the fuel was eaten and compare it to a normal day. I'm waiting and still no receipt. The little access door on the pump is open a bit so I 'took a peek'. No receipt printer, no receipt paper, nothing except a bunch of old receipts and a paper towel. I went inside and the clerk had a problem with my request, she didn't speak much of any English and kept moving away to other customers while I was talking to her. I found a pen, wrote the amount from the pump and went Christmas shopping while I was in the neighborhood. It was a day off from work where I had to use personal time because the only reimbursed time off was jury duty and it was nothing but aggravation.

The very least, I had a good topic of conversation at work the next day!

Thanksgiving Means Turkey!

This Thanksgiving I'm going to take a major departure from the age old 'roasting of the bird' and go the deep fried way. I tried a test bird last week and I was very surprised to see that it actually was very moist and tender but the skin wasn't as crispy as I was led to believe it should have been. I did use a pre-basted bird, which I rarely will do, due to the sale I took advantage of. I've always brined my birds but you can't when you use a per-basted one because it'll be too salty. I did get my 2 holiday birds at a local supermarket for a very low price and I was happy to see the Jennie-O package because I love those turkey's. You rarely find a Jennie-O turkey for .49 per pound and they fit easily into the new freezer. I did go through the safety procedures for frying so I wouldn't end up moist inside and crispy outside like the turkey. There are various safety products you MUST use to ensure your safe cooking experience. The first thing you must have are heat resistant gloves, NOT MITTS! You need finger dexterity when working over very hot oil. I purchased a set of heavy leather BBQ gloves that go up to my elbows in case of a splash. The second item is a pair of wrap around safety glasses like you'd wear mowing a lawn or pressure washing. If there is a splash your eyes will be safe. The last thing I had nearby was a chemical fire extinguisher. NEVER USE WATER for a fryer fire, you'll push burning oil around if you use water. CO2 or dry chemical work best. The last reminder. Even if it's raining outside, NEVER fry within the confines of your home. If a fire should happen your house will be safe if the fire is away from the building. See what can happen below.

While Working, Who Has Time For School?

I'm just saying, who has time to get yourself out of work and to a class or two so that you can try to scratch out a better salary? I don't, and most of the rest of you will be in complete agreement with me on that. Given the opportunity to maybe work some extra hours for a little more 'scratch' in our paycheck versus hurrying to a class for the potential for 'future' monetary gain, the quick and now money usually wins. On the other hand, maybe your one of the ones that recently fell onto hard times and doesn't have that regular position. In this event you may have the time to attend a community college or something similar while you search for employment.

So it's settled. You have determined that you have time to fit online education into your schedule. This works out very well as you set the pace and class times that work for you. Now, what are you going to study? Finance? No, those people are getting the axe faster than the laborers are! Business Management is another hot potato career right now, maybe in five years or so. What then? I want you to stop and think about the education program that you've elected top follow. Wait for it! Online business strategies. This is where we're going to be from here on. It used to be that if you had a Masters Degree it would be included on your resume, then it was left off because of applicant fear of looking too qualified and scaring a potential hiring manager away thinking, "they won't be happy with this job, they'll be wanting mine soon". It may sound ridiculous but it's true. Let's skip to the here and now. Even the military is looking for a few 'exceptionally talented and educated' good people! The education game is on again and the masters candidates are a valuable commodity once more.

Have you figured out what one of the top needs will be for online businesses in the near and distant future? The one thing people always feared about the Internet is there for the taking, information security. The people who are poised for advancement are the ones with a masters information security, people trained in the technical skills that keep money flowing through the information circuits safely. Companies will require it in order to keep the darker elements of our society away from the inner works of business and finance. Banks, manufacturers, and service companies will need qualified people who can keep information secure for them. When a company has security breaches it creates harm to their business name and people shy away from sharing their data with them, instead going to the competition. Government agencies have been recruiting people with these skills, as well as those who cause breaches, in order to help close gaps in the information chain. There are some schools out there that are poised to provide that education for you and I've provided a link in this article for you to explore.

Sago Palm White Spot

This is a reprint from my other blog for viewing to a different following.

I'm writing this article only because there are still people destroying their Sago palms because they think they're dying of white spot disease. I saw one person a couple of streets away rip out a once large, beautiful Sago because the plant died due to white spot.

What is Sago palm white spot? It's cycad aulacaspis scale infestation(also known as Asian cycad scale and sago palm scale), which is a pest not a disease. Originally from Southern Texas it has migrated to northerly regions that can sustain a Sago in the winter months. The Sago, contrary to popular belief, is not a palm but a cycad.

Wikipedia defines Cycad as: Cycads are a group of seed plants characterized by a large crown of compound leaves and a stout trunk. They are evergreen, gymnospermous, dioecious plants having large pinnately compound leaves.

Wikipedia defines them as: Cycads are a group of seed plants characterized by a large crown of compound leaves and a stout trunk. They are evergreen, gymnospermous, dioecious plants having large pinnately compound leaves.

Left untreated the scale pest can destroy a Sago in as little time as a month. The white scale pots are unmistakable as they look like severe dandruff in the middle of the plant, spreading out onto the green of the branches. Essentially, the scale sucks the life out of the plant until it's no longer able to sustain it's life anymore.

Treatment options are many. Ones that actually work, few! Various schools and extensions recommend herbicidal sprays and oils, even pressure washing the plant to dislodge the scale. I don't know about you but getting hit with the spray of a pressure washer hurts me so what will it do to the slender shoots of the plant? There is an alternative that I found on ONE post on the Internet that actually worked! It didn't cost and arm and a leg and it's easily found in any stores pet department that sells Hartz Mountain products.

Hartz Ultra Guard Plus Flea & Tick HOME Spray. I must be specific here because there are 2 kinds of this spray, one that will work and one that won't. The one for the dogs will burn the plant, evidently it's stronger. You MUST get the one for the Home, not the pet! Last year my Sago was so white I thought I'd have to dig it up to prevent it from spreading but I surfed first and found this spray. I applied 2 treatments a day apart when it would be dry outside, not rainy. I still have that Sago in the yard and I treated it today due to new white spot popping up. The end of the week the plant will be all green, no white left. I've used it and it works and the spray bottle will last you several seasons and is not expensive. Sago's aren't cheap and if you want to keep yours alive this is an economical way to do it that won't hurt the plant. See photo below for product description.

First of the Month Again!

White Rabbit! The Brits will know what I mean. :)
