The Most Dangerous Retail Job of All!
What's the most dangerous, and costly, retail job today? Why being the designated television hanger of course! Have you ever seen how these big, flat screens have to be mounted? Have you ever seen one drop from the mounting? I have and it was pretty cool to see, mainly because I didn't do it. When these big LCD and Plasma sets first came out a major retailer that also sells great tools, that shall remain nameless, would not warranty the purchase unless their own installation people came to your house to install it. I believe, if I'm not mistaken, the price was around $250. What a racket they had. Unless your completely inept at even hanging a mirror or picture you can do this. The instructions that come with the mounting kits are very clear and detailed. The LCD and plasma mounts are either flush to wall or free standing stands, some with very nice woodworking. There are a few things to remember when purchasing your wide screen set. The warranty that comes with the set is most often the only one you'll ever need. The extended warranties are a pure profit sale for the retailer, that's why they always ask at the register if you'd like it. They want you to start worrying that something bad will happen. The cables are another high profit sale for the retailers. You don't need the ultra gold coated cables. Standard cables will work just fine and you will never be able to tell the difference unless the cables you use are very old. The mounting of the set. Make sure you know where you want the set to go before purchasing it. I know of a few people that spent a lot of money on wall mounted brackets and then had no rigid support in the walls for the set they bought. Doing a little homework before spending this hard earned money is time well spent. Shop around for the cables and mounts to get the best quality for the money. The stores only offer a limited assortment of these items and they're not going to be the most affordable for you, but will be the most profitable for them.
