Summer and Holiday Seasons Are Fast Approaching.
Do you customarily go through the summer and holiday feasting rituals to only be followed by the button popping weight gain you get from all the relaxing and celebrating? Did I mention the summer beer drinking as well? That's another article I'm afraid. For a lot of people the holiday season is not conducive to a healthy, weight conscious lifestyle. I feel the same way, I'm sure most people do. You do have options however. You can sit there and do nothing but think about losing weight or you can actually do something about it. You want to consider a few things when you pick your diet regimen. Is there a best diet supplement? I'm sure there are some that come very, very close to it out there. Will you be exercising or will you be sitting in an office? Will you still be enjoying summertime and holiday goodies or eating healthy? Do you have blood pressure or blood sugar issues that warrant special choices? There are many resources that can help you through these decisions with their diet and health articles and if more specific information about their products is requested you can contact them or check out their blog for additional data. If you have a few areas that you want to address you can save by opting for diet packages that bundle several diet supplements for an all-around effect such as controlling carb intake and appetite, or metabolism, the varieties go on depending on what YOU want and need. Take a look around, ask questions, read through the wealth of information they have for you then make a list. That's right, make a list, a list of what you want to look like, how you want to feel, and how soon you want it!

Supporting Your Lifestyle Property
Supporting your lifestyle property sounds rather ominous. Sounds like something bad but it isn't, neither is it a minor thing either. Lifestyle purchases can be varied indeed. We have iPhones, tiny laptops, tablet readers, video surveillance systems, audio and visual systems to but name a few. I did find one thing very interesting at the 'blue' department store that's been around forever. If you purchase one of their big flat top televisions you are pretty much required to pay the additional money for them to install it as well. You just can't use tv stands that will hold many different types of televisions, you need to use the one specified by the mfg and installed professionally in order to be covered by the warranty. This, I assume, is because too many Delberts out there did a hap-hazard install, damaged the set, and then tried to return it as defective. Once you get too many returns like this you have to do something fast to protect your business. I don't fault the stores. They want to stay in business and if everything gets returned due to neglect they'll soon be out of business. Get it done the right way if you're unsure how to do it correctly. No one wants to be watching a movie and have the set come crashing down on a family member with injury.

Comfort and Price Sometimes Come Very Close.
For the past 2-3 years my wife has been using a metal folding chair at her laptop. I thought nothing of it and she never said anything. She had a computer problem and I needed to sit down and correct it before it got worse. The point is that I had to sit down and think it out to fix it. That hunk of metal hurt after a short while. The part that confounded me was that she never complained except for a couple of mentions about maybe looking into getting a chair someday and using an overstuffed cushion, which previous to this looked foolish. I now knew better! I went onto a few of the mainstream retailers and a few on-line shops that sold office furniture and other goodies I might like. We got a few ideas and some comparative pricing and went to get a chair that was on sale at a major office supply retailer and it looked like a great deal. I should say that the sale items were not something to write home about. I finally convinced her to get a higher end chair because they would tend to be more supportive AND comfortable and the price difference was only $30 more than the one on sale. The only thing better than having it delivered would be to have someone set it up as well. What a difference a good piece of furniture makes over a bad one.

It Doesn't Need To Be Summer To Be Green!
There are so many ways you can Green your home and not every way has to be a monetary back-breaker. I recommend doing things as you can afford them. Many of the things I have written about on this site are directed towards affordable fixes, but some are not! Take, for instance, your washing machine. The standard washer is a top loader that holds so many clothes and uses Tide, Wisk, whatever. Let's say that your machine is working fine and you want to go Green. Well, unless you have a good amount of disposable income, I say Stop! It's a fine idea to transform your house to a Green house but use moderation so that you don't resent the improvement you made. It may be prudent for you to do some energy auditing to see where improvements can, and probably should, be done. Let's say the existing machine has had issues and the repairman says it will be too expensive to fix because it's too old, or whatever. This is the time to Think Green! You now have many viable options and prices to choose from that are all Green, in theory. The educated consumer will consult online services such as Consumer Reports.org or other consumer based product review site to check on things like reliability, repair frequency, cleaning ability, ambient noise, ease of use, controls, warranties, capacity, max water consumption per load, Energy Star Compliant and cost! Seems like a lot doesn't it? It is and it isn't. Most of these reviewing sites will list each unit by the important features first and which ones do better in these categories than others. My advice is to stick to the top 15 models, discard the rest and sort them out by what YOU want in a washer. Front loaders have a few major perks going for them.
1. Use about 50% less water per wash than top loaders,
2. Use much less detergent (HE designated detergents are designed for low suds cleaning in front loaders),
3. Ease of loading/unloading, no more lifting up out of the machine heavy wet clothes),
4. Cost is reasonably similar to top loaders but you will get this back on what you save in water and soap,
5. Cold water cleans just as well, if not better than warm or hot,
6. Stackable, and the biggest perk,
7. Clothes get cleaner than with a top loader due to the tumbling action of the drum.
I could probably go on but I will say this. If you go to an appliance store remember one thing. If they can sell the machines that aren't selling well, it's good for them. Do your homework and don't be bullied away from your choice. You have to live with it a year from now and then some.
I've had a front loader for over 7 years now and I'll never go back to the top loaders. The two I've owned, one was from that store that sells those great tools that never break or their replaced free-that one lasted 6 years and the second was from an appliance store that we did our homework on. We're happy with our decision, I know you will be too.

Without Fathers We Wouldn't Have Mothers Day!
The most overlooked almost holiday has to be Fathers Day. Why is that? It's because we, fathers, don't make a big deal out of it and for the most part what we would like above all else is just a relaxing day for ourselves. We get to BBQ instead! We get to work on the grill because that's what we do, everybody else get away. Mothers have the house, we have the yard and garage. Period! Who sends flowers to their father on this day? I haven't seen any, but I'm sure someone had gotten a pansy or two. There are guides for Mothers Day so why can't there be a guide to father's day gifting? Golf, tennis, fishing, bowling, TV watching, beer drinking, whatever the sport we're waiting. It would be like a second birthday for us. We say don't bother doing anything but that's not what we really want to say, it's just a guy thing you know!

Did Someone Say It Was Tea Time?
Fat loss products and techniques sounds like a method of weight loss but it really isn't. Fat loss products are a group of products that are often labeled as Fat Burners, fat absorbers, Cortisol supplementation, green tea, flax seed, diet pills, water pills, Fat Non-Digestion Pills (true enough) as well as many generic herbal blends. Fat elimination techniques are methods of behavioral modification such as Atkins, South Beach, Grapefruit Only right up to and including procedures such as Lap Band surgery. Lap Band surgery is the most radical of all of these as it requires surgery to install and adjust and if you happen to eat too large a piece of food it will come right back up, regardless of where you happen to be. Overall, you will see advertisements that say Go to this web-site for information, click here for fat burners, and call now for special 2 for 1 pricing or free shipping.
My advice to those of you who may be contemplating these very decisions? Click through to them all! That's right, click on all of them and do your homework, ask questions, talk to friends or even someone else in a store aisle that's looking at the products too. Read up on Cortisol therapy articles and green tea based products like Lipovox , not to mention the other green tea and Cortisol treatments and supplements. They may know something that you don't, yet. I chose my way to lose the weight I want to lose and you must choose the way that's right for you. The way I'm doing it has a lot of cheats and I had to add them to the diet to slow it down. You need to allow your body to adjust to a NEW weight and REMEMBER it so if you happen to 'fall off' you can get back on with less struggle. The best of luck to you in weight loss!

Self Caring Ponds? I Wish.
Water features can be enjoyed in southern zones most of the year. If you live in the northern climates, however, you'll need to provide some protection for marginal plants.
Tropical water plants can't withstand freezing temperatures and have an algae problem in hotter months, so salvage these plants by lifting them, container and all, out of the pond; place them in a dish pan with shallow water. Place the pan in a sunny window or in a well-lit area of the house. Plants will grow indoors until they can be reintroduced outside when the pond is free of ugly, but mostly harmless algae. In the spring in colder climates, place them back in the pond after risk of hard freezes are gone.
If you have plants such as giant reed grass in your pond and the frost has killed them back, it's best to prune back the tops just above water level, and the plants will survive even though ice forms on the pond. Frost often nips back foliage on hardy water lilies: to solve this problem, trim back the leaves to the rhizome or the top of the plant. This will clean up the plant so that it's ready to be lowered to the bottom of the pond, thus able to survive winter conditions. In the spring, just lift plants back up to ledge level and they will start growing again.
Some ponds, especially shallow ones, need to be drained completely during cleanings as algae will often take over a southern climate pond if you don't stay on top of things. Having a high capacity pond skimmer would do the job nicely by constantly exchanging and oxygenating the water. Before draining, move the fish to an inside aquarium or in a larger pond that will be maintained during the winter months. I recommend always having an indoor aquarium if you have pond fish just in case of sickness, disease, or poor water conditions. I recently had a pump problem. The problem was that the pump shot all, except 3 inches, of all the water out of the pond. If I didn't have a seasoned aquarium ready the fish would probably have all died. When removing water from the pond don't waste it, it's rich in nutrients. Use it to water perennials, trees and shrubs; when the water soaks in, it will release nutrients to the plant.
If you plan to overwinter fish, it's important to have a pond that's at least two feet deep or deeper. This allows the fish to go to the depths of the pond to overwinter, and it allows you to take your hardy water lilies and place them at the lower levels as well. If you have an above ground pond I recommend either a good, reliable heater or just bring them inside for the winter.

It Can Sometimes Be Too Late, But Why Wait.
Like the foundation of a house, our bones don't get our attention until something goes wrong. But new studies show that there's more to bone health than avoiding fractures. Toxic metals like lead can accumulate in our bones over the course of our lives and, if bone loss occurs, the toxins can be released into the bloodstream. Women, especially after menopause, are more vulnerable to bone loss than men. New research suggests that lead in the bloodstream might help explain the onset of high blood pressure in women in their 50's.
The good news is that we're also learning new ways to keep bones healthy. In the past, we've placed too much emphasis on womens vitamins, calcium and not enough on vitamin D3 in particular. Calcium intake is most important in adolescence, when the skeleton is forming. After growth is complete, vitamin D3, "the sunshine vitamin," may be more important to maintain healthy bones.
Here's what you can do:
Avoid exposure to heavy metals like lead,
Get more vitamin D
Add weight bearing exercise to your workouts.
These few simple steps can be the best way to avoid pitfalls in the autumn of life.

Putting On Your Best Face
I really feel for teenagers when it comes to the holidays and trying to put your best face forward. The only trouble is that there are pimples, or acne, present and can be very unnerving to teenagers. Of course acne is not just for the young. Adults can be prone to acne as the body changes and hormonal influences take control, or lack of control, producing the annoying whiteheads and blackheads of acne, to a different degree.
The teens of today have a marked advantage over when I was a teen. There is quality skin care and acne cream to make outbreaks short-lived. We used to have to do the washes and exfoliation with scrubs along with benzoyl peroxide creams. Today's best acne treatments are simple processes with quick results. Today there is no excuse for anyone to not hit that trendy holiday party or ask that special someone on a date because of a pimple. Treatment is ready and waiting and quick!

America Needs to Work and Live
I, at one time, mentioned the need for good financial people in the current fiscal uncertainty we share. Many people are needed that have the training and have ethics, unlike the last lot of multi-millionaire sharks. Maybe if these corporations had a better employment screening process we wouldn't have had to bail out such a big money boat. I also brought up health care opportunities but the one I want to talk about in this post is the fast food industry. People have to eat and in trying times, with financial restrictions, people will be giving up going out to restaurants and doing more supermarket shopping for eat-in as well as visiting the lesser expensive take-away establishments like burger, pizza and sandwich shops for their personal and family meal needs. Consumers, especially parents, are looking for better nutrition that they can afford for their families which will lead many to avoid the grease pit fast food joints and opt for the more healthy 'you choose what you eat' shops. This brings up an interesting business concept that has been around for years but can be a gold ring for many that can take advantage of it. What I'm talking about is franchising and right now the people that are in place are in a great position to seize the fast growing, healthy directed, lesser priced take out food market. The economy isn't going anywhere for a while and people need affordable food that won't put them in the hospital with clogged arteries. That was said to me by a friend about the unhealthy 'grease pits' that are still around. You know the ones I mean.

A Few Home Improvements.
I figured that when I'm recovering from my oral surgery I can plan some needed repairs and upgrades around the house. I have some electrical things and some sheet metal work, minor plumbing fixes, lawn care, and pest treatments to do. Did I say recovery time? I got some decent leads for my areas such as Bill Killmers Metal Shop, Do-Right Plumbing Supply, Murray Feiss lighting, Dark Green Lawn Co., and Bug Depot for my pesticides and lawn chemicals. I stopped using department store chemicals a long time ago, waste of time and money. Some of the stuff, like the lighting, I'll get via the internet and the plumbing is about 3 miles away. It's tough getting plumbing supplies now that the economy has burst and the big box home stores reigned in the small store customers on price and hours. I can, if pain is not too much an issue, use this sick time for a grander plan but I'll see how it goes first.

Stuck Between the Dentist and the Oral Surgeon.
I've been put in the middle again. I'm not happy about it, not at all. I went to the dentist, a new dentist mind you, for a treatment plan to restore my bite since some of the teeth I needed are no longer there and a couple of others will not face the root canal/crown financial fate. Two rc's and crowns would end up costing more than pulling all my teeth out and snapping in some fake choppers. Isn't that pathetic? My wallet can't take anymore dental sticker shock. I digress. I went to the oral surgeon for a pre-op exam for the 2 extractions and that turned into 5, some bone removal on my lower jaw, and sleepy juice for the procedure for 2 partials. They called for an insurance quote and got the specs for their end. Now the fun part. The dentist said to go to the surgeon and get finished up there then go back to them. The surgeon said go back to the dentist for impressions and the partials then come back for the extractions. See, I'm in the middle again. I called my dentist today and she's doesn't know what the surgeon is talking about so she'll call him and confer and maybe then someone will let me know. In the mean time my toothache still hurts! I couldn't make this far fetched story if I tried.

Rock For The Ages.
I recently went to a stone quarry looking for some decorative flagstones for my backyard. What I discovered was boggling to say the least. This place had stone, stone, and more stone everything's! You name it, they emulated it in stone. They even had a 2 ton stone spa. It looked cool but I don't know about comfort, being stone and all. They also had stone counter-tops, stone sinks, a stone table(no chairs), stone mailboxes, stone pillars, etc. Obviously, someone with some skill went nuts with the tools here. Not a job for the guy who gets the sand kicked in his face at the beach here. I think the guy, or gal, who does this has to get really mad, turn green, and go stone crazy. That works for me. I spent about an hour and a half looking at the cool rock sculptures before I remembered what I originally went there for. I ended up getting about 20 slabs and had them delivered instead of collapsing my cars suspension taking them home. Next weekend I'll go green myself and lay them out.

Inappropriate Request? I Think So.
I was recently given a 'generalized' invitation to a coworkers house warming party. The invitation detailed how to get there and what time, all the important pertinent details that are normally required when hosting a fete. Well, almost all the important things. This invitation, that went to all the employees, alluded that there was one employee who has an issue with alcohol that they would not be providing, just to let him/her know(I know who), but that wasn't the kicker for me. I admit it was rather rude and accusatory towards someone who the host declares to be a friend of, but I digress. What I found inappropriate was that the directed every guest to bring a personalized gift from one, or both, of the big box home supply stores, the orange or the blue. I'm surprised that they didn't specify the amount of the gift card they were expecting everyone to bring. I would never do this to anyone because I wouldn't expect someone to do it to me. Telling guests what they are expected to bring to a simple buffet party with a no alcohol rule and it's all adults that would be attending. If he left out the expected gift part and the rude alcohol gesture I would have attended and most likely asked what they could use for their home and bought it. Did I mention I skipped the party?

Who Scammed Who, or Whom?
I was just reading a piece on the net about this fellow who plagiarized his entire academic history and was able to get some 5 digit grants from some prestigious colleges in the country, even gaining admission to one of the top Ivy Leagues schools as well. Not bad for a liar. Did I fail to mention he has been arrested for his educational misdeeds? If this guy wanted a degree so bad he could have gotten any number of accredited online degrees from a large number of colleges and universities, with his fake stature and credentials, and never gotten caught! I mean why did he decide to go for the cash as well as the entrance to the school? It boils down to two things: greed and stupidity. He graduates Summa Cum Laude for both of these skills! For free yet! Idiots like this....no, wait. He's not the idiot here. The idiots are the ones that didn't check transcripts and didn't verify financial data before bestowing grants to this, and other, fakes. He actually is smart, just not smart enough to get away with what he was trying to do. Shame, shame on the ivy covered walls in the quad. Did I mention I graduated from this university? Magna Cum Laude in advanced widget theory.

Replace It or Upgrade the Power
My wife has a laptop and I don't. That's the way I like it and it's the way she likes it also. I'm a hardware guy and always will be. I've got 5.5 terabytes of storage and my processor flies along with the maxed out memory I have, her laptop is in the dust, but she likes it. The time has come for a power upgrade for her laptop or a complete replacement to bring it up to current specs. There are plenty of notebook, web book and laptop deals out there but finances are a factor. Before you say anything, I got every piece of hardware I have at rock bottom, bottom, prices! I'm not trying to be cheap here, just wise for her sake. She isn't a 'computer-phile' when it comes to relearning a new computer, even though the similarities are great, and she has great comfort in the machine she currently owns. I priced batteries and they run in the range of $125 to $155 for her model replacement. I got her a brand new one for $46 from the manufacturer. I told you I get rock bottom, bottom, prices. It has a nice warranty too.

I watch Movies on my PC Now!
That's right, I watch all my movies on my PC now. Why would I do that? I do it because I upgraded my standard monitor to a digital one. Actually, I upgraded to a Samsung HDTV for my movie and television viewing. Sounds kind of weird I guess. If this were 20 years ago it would be weird but not today. Many people regularly watch their entertainment of their computers whether it's a PC or the fruit one(sorry, I'm a PC). The only thing I don't like to view is the 3D stuff that's coming out in gushes now. I guess you need to have a fairly good inventory of 3D glasses on hand to view different types of 3D, I'll pass on this one for now. I don't need to see that silly pie heading for my face or a scary alien licking out their tongue at me, it's too staged for me to enjoy. I'll wait for the VR(Virtual Reality) sets to emerge later when the technology is commonplace. Remember how exciting the Playstation was when it first came out, now the PS3 has lots of competition, price and feature competition that is. It won't be long now but in the meantime I'll enjoy my HD picture in the comfort of my own room. Did I mention the surround sound system?

Another New Milestone Reached
The 5th of May, or Cinco de Mayo as most know it even though it means the exact same thing, is my designated quit smoking anniversary date. Why? It was easy to remember and it happens in May (I didn't want to wait for Memorial Day). My 3rd anniversary came and went and I celebrated it by bbq'ing ribeye's for dinner. Were they ever good! I say they were really good because I can taste and smell EVERYTHING again and did I miss it now that I know what I missed, and yes, even the nasty smells I smell again but most of them are from the smokers I never smelled before, which I was one of. I know my timing was pretty spot on for the jump in tobacco prices which left the e-cigarettes lower priced than the real ones. Hows that for a kick in technology's pants! My brother still smokes and I'm concerned because he's been smoking many years longer than I did. On the great side of things, my clean chest x-ray. Three years after quitting I got a clear x-ray of my lungs which I was told should have taken longer to clear. I'm not complaining! If you can't quit, or aren't ready to quit, try an alternative such as an e-cigarette or a very low tar and nicotine brand to slow down. Good luck!

Time To Get Out The Bathing Suit.
It's not like I sit in front of the television and pig out on pork rinds or big bowls of ice cream, I don't. However, since the economy has been a bit 'touchy' shall we say, I have spent more time at work reinforcing my place in the company and less time keeping in shape. My biggest fear is that I won't be getting much time between now and my vacation to lose much of anything except for some dark hair on my head. I have looked around for alternatives but I've heard lots of stories about banned supplements and stuff that does nothing except empty weight from your wallet. I think I'm going to lean towards a fat burner since the other types of weight loss products don't seem to get a lot of respect. I know if I can get my metabolism up the weight will come off, with sensible eating also, that goes without even saying. There are many names they come by such as Fizogen, MMUSA, and Apidexin. I recommend you read the data on them and make your choice as I have. I actually went with the Apidexin because I liked what I read and put a link for you to read as well. The decision is yours to make, choose wisely.

Life Is Too Short To Be Stupid.
Why on Earth would someone who makes over a million dollars a year (lots more than me) put their career at stake to use an illegal growth hormone? It just doesn't make sense because they face contract termination and even jail time not to mention disqualification of awards and entry into their respective Hall of Fame being removed. Look what happened to Pete Rose for making a bunch of bets. Gambling is a sickness but they didn't care because it said in the rules that you couldn't do it, no matter what the situation and the same goes for HGH injections. It creates an unfair player advantage and will also cut ones life short. Remember Lyle Alzado? He died of brain cancer due to HGH injections just to be a better football player. It's still in the news today as I write this. Just plain stupid, but from their perspective I can kind of understand it, not condone it, just somewhat understand it. When the players start to fall away from their career highs they start to fear non renewal of contracts and being put out to pasture while the younger, stronger players come to take their place. They don't need to be taking what is illegal when they could take a legal testosterone booster that works to allow their own body to manufacture what is illegal to purchase and inject, HGH. HGH manufactured by them in their own body. If the body still won't produce it with the use of legal supplements than it won't produce it! Keep working out and pray you didn't make a wrong decision by not going to college when you had the chance. It's not worth the risk to you or your loved ones to get 'juiced'.

Fat loss products and techniques sounds like a method of weight loss but it really isn't. Fat loss products are a group of products that are often labeled as Fat Burners, Fat Absorbers, Cortisol therapy, Diet Pills, Water pills, Fat Non-Digestion Pills (true enough) as well as many generic herbal blends.
Read up on Cortisol therapy articles and reviews, not to mention the other Cortisol type treatments and fat burning products.

Bad Trend in Banking Emerging!
I heard some grumblings at work but really didn't give them much thought until I recently heard a clear conversation from an upset coworker to another. The topic of their conversation was a home equity line of credit one of them had with Bank of America. It wasn't a conversation of rejection by the bank for a line of credit but rather a cancellation of an existing line they already had, and from what I understand, they had for several years with no lapses in payments that were on time. This piqued my curiosity because I have a line with my bank and I wanted to find out what was up with that. I asked her, in a nice way of course, if she's had a recent and abrupt change in her, or her husband's, credit score or if they've gone through a catastrophic financial situation. The answer was an emphatic no! I asked her if she could elaborate on the letter she got and she told me that it wasn't confidential and that I could read it myself. I was shocked that a bank of this calibre would do this but she was dropped because her home valuation has declined recently! Recently? Did they just wake up from a coma and realize what's been going on for the past few years? The letter said there was no issue with their credit and it was based solely on the home value. Her line of credit was less than 25% of the assessed value of the home 3 years ago. The part that hurt them the most is that they were about to use some of that money for a new roof, which would increase the home value. I told her there was a consolation to all of this if they wanted to pursue it. They could approach the bank and tell them they're mortgaged for more than the house is now worth and renegotiated the mortgage, then go to the tax assessors office and apply for a lower property tax based on the devaluation of the property. I've seen this addressed on several money shows but not because of the line of credit issue, just lower values.
In summary, my thoughts on this situation.
I think that in the case of the bank dropping these people due to the financial tumble of the property value the bank is saying to them that they think they will be soon filing for bankruptcy protection and the less money that's owed to the bank the better. They were told, of course, that all monies outstanding on the account are still due, just don't go looking for more from that account that is now closed to them, even though they were good paying customers for years. Ahhh, loyalty!
